How to Buy HBO Max in Ethiopia with Telebirr
To pay for HBO Max in Ethiopia in birr, choose a duration on our HBO Max Ethiopia page, pay by Telebirr, CBE Birr, Awash Bank or Dashen Bank using the details shown at checkout, and upload your payment screenshot and transaction number. We confirm the payment before sending setup details on Telegram or WhatsApp. Before you pay, message @itsabelb on Telegram: we confirm which plan your order is on and what is needed to watch from Ethiopia on your devices.
Why paying HBO Max yourself is hard
HBO Max bills a card in foreign currency, and most birr debit cards are not enabled for international online payments. That is the issuing bank's decision, not something HBO Max or we can change. Why Ethiopian cards are declined explains what to ask your bank. HBO Max's help centre has its own rules on where and how it can be watched.
Standard or Premium
HBO Max sells more than one plan, and the difference is noticeable on a big screen:
- Standard streams in Full HD on 2 devices at once, with up to 30 downloads.
- Premium adds 4K Ultra HD and Dolby Atmos where a title offers them, on 4 devices at once, with up to 100 downloads.
If 4K matters to you, say so before paying and we confirm whether your order includes it. HBO Max's own site has the current comparison.
You also need a premium VPN
Watching HBO Max from Ethiopia needs a premium VPN, such as ExpressVPN or NordVPN. We sell both, at the same price, so you can order the VPN with HBO Max and pay for both in birr. The ExpressVPN and NordVPN pages have the price. If you already have a VPN, tell us which one and we check it before you pay.

Paying in birr, step by step
- Ask first. Tell @itsabelb which devices you watch on and whether you want 4K. We confirm the plan and the setup before you pay anything.
- Pick the length. The full price shows before you commit.
- Pay from your phone. Telebirr or CBE Birr, Awash or Dashen. Send the exact amount to the account shown at checkout.
- Upload the confirmation screenshot. Add the transaction number from your SMS, so the payment is matched to your order.
- Get set up. We confirm the payment and send setup details on Telegram or WhatsApp.
If something goes wrong
- You paid but have not heard back. Send your order reference and transaction number to @itsabelb on Telegram.
- It stops working before the period ends. Our rule is on the replacement and refunds page: a fix or replacement within 24 hours for the whole period you paid for, or a refund for the part you did not receive.
