Gemini 3.7 Flash is out — hybrid reasoning, speed, and real benchmark scores

Google has officially released Gemini 3.7 Flash, introducing the industry's first true hybrid reasoning architecture. Rather than forcing you to choose between a fast everyday assistant and a slow, heavy reasoning model, Gemini 3.7 Flash handles both within a single model.

What "Hybrid Reasoning" actually means

Traditional models like GPT-4o respond instantly but struggle with deep multi-step logic. Dedicated reasoning models like OpenAI o1 or o3 "think" before answering every single prompt, adding 15 to 40 seconds of latency even when you only asked for a quick email draft.

Gemini 3.7 Flash introduces a dynamically adjustable thinking budget (from 0 tokens up to 64k tokens):

• Instant Mode (0 thinking tokens): Sub-second responses for summarizing articles, generating copy, and quick translations.
• Extended Thinking Mode: Deep multi-pass chain-of-thought for complex code generation, full codebase refactors, and mathematical proofs.

The Benchmark Results

These are the numbers Google publishes on its own model card, not third-party estimates:

• DeepSWE v1.1 (long-horizon software engineering): 65.3%, measured on tasks that run for many steps rather than single edits.
• Multimodal reasoning: native video, audio, and visual document analysis across a 1-million-token context window.

Google does not publish a SWE-bench Verified or an AIME score for this model, so we do not quote one. Figures for it on other sites are worth checking against that model card before you rely on them — we had two here ourselves until we did.
